Methodology
What earns a project, developer or seller a place on this site — and what leaves one off. Criteria ordered by weight.
Last updated: November 2026. Figures and regulatory details reflect publicly reported information as of that date; verify current rules with the relevant registry or regulator before transacting.
Before anything else: can you check it?
A listing requires credits traceable to public issuance and retirement records — on Verra (VCS), Gold Standard or Plan Vivo, or within a CORSIA-eligible programme. If the record cannot be checked, the project is not listed, whatever the marketing says.
Where the project stands with Nairobi
Kenyan entries need approval under the carbon-market rule book published in August 2026 and, where applicable, a presence in the national registry launched in February 2026. Because export headroom under the cap is finite, we treat it as a live factor for internationally marketed projects.
How long has it delivered?
Documented operating history carries weight: Kasigau Corridor's VCS REDD+ issuance going back to 2011, or Vi Agroforestry's decades with smallholder groups, count for more than a new entrant's promises.
Who benefits, and can you see it?
Community benefit arrangements must be public and written. Where controversies or registry actions exist, we describe them in the open rather than omit them. Mikoko Pamoja's community-run governance remains our small-project benchmark.
How is the carbon measured?
Measured beats modelled. We favour metered-and-verified approaches such as Gold Standard's electric-cooking methodology, first applied in Africa by UpEnergy in 2025, and satellite-plus-AI soil measurement of the kind Boomitra uses.
Disclosures
- No credit sales and no listing commissions; sponsorship, when present, is labelled.
- No published prices — a static page cannot track a moving market.
- Suspensions and controversies are flagged, never buried.
